He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Ransom Benton and Bernice Frances Lane Benton. He is survived by: his wife Mary M. Benton; his children, Wayne Shelton Benton (Cyndy) of Snow Hill, Scott Daniel Tadlock (Toni) of Pikeville, Vicky Lancaster (Eric) of Pikeville and Steven Christian Tadlock (Michelle) of Goldsboro; his siblings, Billy Ray Benton (Joyce) of Fremont and Sara Frances Hales (Earl) of Pikeville; his close friend Kenneth Howell of Pikeville; and his mother-in-law Mary Elizabeth Buck Monk. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
