He was predeceased by: his parent Benjamin Harrison Gay; and also Faye Francine Garris Gay. He is survived by: his parent Annie Irene Rouse Gay; his sons, Ronnie Carroll Gay (Hope) and Bennie Michael Gay (Dawn); his stepsons, Joel Bart Mercer and Brett Mercer (Jennifer Cooke Mercer); his siblings, Irvin "Buck" Gay (Wendy) and Barbara Allen Thigpen (Johnny); and his grandchildren, Katie Melissa Gay, Taylor Caroline Gay, Austin Michael Gay, Jordan Lee Gay, Hannah Dawn Gay, Hailey Madison Mercer, Chelsea Mercer Moore, Jeremy Brett Mercer, Isabelle Isaacs Mercer, Garris Boyd Mercer and Callie Parks Mercer.
