He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Amanda Pike Herring; his daughters, Carla Hazelwander (Duane) and Renae Herring; his stepson Clifton R. Kirkland, Jr. (Jep); his sister Anne H. Hopkins (F. L.); and his grandchildren, Crystal Dawn Herring Wilder, Britany Hazelwander, Zoie Herring and Alexxis Castrati (Anthony).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
