He was predeceased by: his brother-in-law Paul Garrison. He is survived by: his wife Sallie Settle Modlin; his daughters, Ruth Ellett (Scott) of Richmond, VA, Ginny Tyler (Rob) of Raleigh and Mollie Brice (Graham) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Emily Brice, Sallie Ellett, Jamie Tyler and Vance Brice; and his sister Betsy M. Snyder.
