He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert E. Anderson and Ruth Nobens Anderson; his former wife Nancy Anderson; and his son Steve Anderson. He is survived by: his wife Beverly Holt Anderson; his children, Jeff Anderson (Piper) of Greensboro and Julie Dowden (Dale) of Princeton; his daughter-in-law Kim Anderson of Sanford; his children, Clifton Griffin (Jeana) of Goldsboro and Amber Wilkins (Jeff); his grandchildren, Seth Anderson (Katie), Drew Anderson (Rachael), Laura Hedden (Hank), Ben Dowden (Lene'), Robert Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Emma Anderson, Gideon Griffin, Gauge Griffin, Garrison Griffin, MillieGrace Griffin and Silas Wilkins; and his great grandchildren, Alden, Blythe, Crosby, Isaac, Corin, Evelyn, Violet, Maddie, Hannah, Juliette and Sophia.
In lieu of flowers, Herb requested memorials be given for Bibles through the Gideons, P.O. Box 10093, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
