He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Exie Wells Smith and Jim Berry Smith; his siblings, Joyce S. Hare and Billy Smith; his wife Mariam Stallings Smith; his children, Carolyn S. Walch (Artie), Jana S. Ashcraft (Scott), Sherri S. Bonham and Michael J. Smith; and his brother Shelton Smith. He was also cherished by 5 grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
