He was predeceased by: his parents, George Bennett Stackhouse and Eva Bryant Stackhouse; his wife Katherine Dunlap Stackhouse; and his grandchildren, Benjamin Kaylor Sauls, Jr. and Claire Connor Sauls.
He is survived by: his wife Marlys N. Stackhouse; his children, John Woods Stackhouse, Jr. (Saray, Charles Kirkland), Wilson Bryant Stackhouse (Susan) and Katherine "Kitty" Stackhouse Sauls (Ben); his grandchildren, Kimberly Stackhouse Smith (Shane, Heather Stackhouse), Elizabeth Stackhouse Saunders (John, Katherine Stackhouse), John Joseph Sauls (Katherine) and Susan Stackhouse Lutcavage (Marc); and his daughter-in-law Pamela Jeffcoat Stackhouse. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, 101 Manning Drive CB #7600, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
