He was predeceased by : his father Lyman A. Smith, Jr.. He is survived by : his wife Sandra K. Burwell; his children, Russell Burwell and Jenny Burwell; his mother Margaret Smith; and his siblings, Cathy Hammett of Newport News, VA, Michael A. Smith (Trudy) of Wilmington and Linwood B. Smith (Monica) of Wilmington. He is also survived by five nieces and four nephews.
