It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Merle Smith Lea of Hampstead, North Carolina, who passed away on September 15, 2021, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, William Ramp Smith Sr. and Virginia Dare Davis Smith; her husband Bert L. Lea Sr.; her siblings, W. R. Smith Jr., J. J. Smith Sr., Norma Reeves, Tommy Smith, Bobby Smith Sr., Marion Smith, Celia Medford, Henry Smith, Ronnie Smith and Burns Smith; and her son-in-law Ty Medlin.
She is survived by: her children, Dorothy Lea Medlin, Bert Lea Jr. (Barbara) and Judy Lea Lane (Charlie); her grandchildren, Cori Carmichael (Chris), Anthony Medlin Jennifer (Barbara), Dan Lane and Ben Lane (Elizabeth); and her great grandchildren, Leighton Randall, Casey Medlin, Bert Rudolph, Ava Craven, Lilyanna Lane, Aubrey Lane and Colt Lane.
Due to Covid, the family will not have visitation. There will be a viewing at 1 p. m., with a funeral service at 2 p. m. on Sunday, September 19th at the Hampstead Baptist Church, 67 Factory Road and mask are requested.
