With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Marena Rose Brooks of Harkers Island, North Carolina, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She was predeceased by: her parents, Iredell Rose and Abbie Jean Rose; her daughter Eva Chappell; her grandsons, John Douglas and Brian Deen Brooks; her siblings, Florence "Sissy" Lewis, Calvin Rose, Halsie Paul Rose, James Rose and Earl Rose; and her brother-in-law Benjamin Brooks.
She is survived by: her husband Charles "Red" Brooks; her sons, Charles Bentley Brooks (Donna) of Harkers Island and John Brooks (Kim) of Harkers Island; her brother Willie Rose; her son-in-law Preston Chappell; her sister-in-law JoAnn Brooks; her grandchildren, Della Brooks (Wendy), Cameron Guthrie (Shannon), Charlie Brooks (Marissa Gerace), Johnna Brooks (Clifton Rose), John Brooks Jr., Alexa Brooks, Krislynn Maddox, Butch Chappell (Jennifer), Alex Chappell, Caroline Chappell and Jonathan Chappell; her great grandchild Carly Guthrie; and her close friends, Vickie, Terry Yeomans, Tina Long, Helen Ann Chadwick, Rita Willis, Jared Jones, Carolyn Gillikin, Hannah Gillikin, Jodie Willis and Sheila Combs. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 30th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church (803 Island Rd, Harkers Island, NC 28531). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 at the Vergie Mae Cemetery (603 Cape Lookout Dr, Harkers Island, NC 28531).
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made in Collo's memory to the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church.
