He is survived by: his daughters, Kimberly Swanson (Greg) of Decorah and Kathleen Taggart (Ian) of Savannah; his grandchildren, John Patrick Hammel of Decorah and Thomas Finn Hammel of Decorah; and his nephew Mike Heck of Hiwassee.
