He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Lee Griffin and Ola Styers Griffin of Rural Hall, NC; his wife Sandra Shields Griffin of Hickory; and his siblings, Joseph, Norris, Angeline and Barbara.
He is survived by: his sons, Cowan Griffin (Erika) of Chapel Hill, Steven Griffin (Angel) of Boone and Michael Griffin of Chapel Hill; and his sisters, Regina Ryder and Jessie Rae Montsinger. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
