He was predeceased by: his parent Vernon Olin Leonard; his wife Grace Keisler Leonard; his daughter Paulette Leonard; his siblings, Olin Leonard, Belk Leonard, Eli Leonard, Elizabeth L. Stahl and Charlotte L. Seagle; and his son-in-law William "Bill" Buffington.

He is survived by: his parent Augusta Caroline Kyaw Leonard; his children, Joyce Buffington of Conover, NC, Dennis Leonard (Nancy) of Hickory, NC and Allen Leonard (Trudy) of Hickory, NC; his grandchildren, Stephanie Russell (Chad), Aeron Leonard, Jennifer Leonard, Bradley Misenheimer (Heather) and Stacy Smith (Ashley); his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Mattie, Lily, McKenna, Allison and Haley; and his sister-in-law Rachel Keisler of Morganton, NC..
