He was predeceased by: his father James D. Dietz, Sr.; and his sister Lisa Dietz. He is survived by: his mother Phyllis Passmore Dietz; his son Justin Dietz; and his brother Jim Dietz (Deborah) of Hickory. He is also survived by aunts, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hickory Soup Kitchen, 110 2nd St. Pl., SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
