He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Nichols and Ruth Brooks Nichols; his wife Frances Joan Flanagan Nichols; and his brothers, Donald and Stanley Nichols.
He is survived by: his children, Kathleen Ann Nichols Mott (Donald) of Hickory and David Robert Nichols (Mary Katherine) of Hickory; and his brother Roger Nichols (Dorothy) of Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
