He was predeceased by: his parents, Septimia Douglas White and James Buford McDowell; his wife Dorothy Rene Raby; and his brother James Buford McDowell. He is survived by: his children, Cathy McDowell Poulos (George) of Wilmington, Michael McDowell (Mike) of Birmingham, AL, William Douglas McDowell (Tricia) of Nashville, TN, Ann McDowell Game (Clifton) of New Bern and Mary Kate McDowell Rollings (Rich) of Greenville, S. C.; his grandchildren, Weston Poulos (Sarah), Michelle Poulos Woo (Jordan), Nathan Poulos (Shelby), Megan McDowell, Margaret, Catherine McDowell, Will, Maddie Game, John David, Alex, Andrew and Mary Katherine Rollings; his stepgrandchildren, CJ Game and Stacy Game Kennedy; and his great grandchildren, Watson, Liam Woo and Theo Poulos.
