He was predeceased by: his parents, Greer Hoover and Pauline Peay Hoover; and his former wife Sandra Compton Hoover. He is survived by: his wife Janice Wise Hoover; his children, Jonathan Kane Hoover of Greensboro and Jennifer Hoover McElory of Durham; his sister LaGreer Hoover Randolph of Nebraska; and his grandson Logan Compton McElroy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Green Street Baptist Church Children's Camp Fund or Boy and Girls Club of Eden.
