He was predeceased by: his mother Margaret M. Jackson Garrett; his grandmother Lucerita Jackson; his aunts and uncles, Ann Albea, Josephine Reese, Marion Garrett and Charles Garrett; and his nephew Bryant Garrett-Scott.

He is survived by: his sons, Jerome Garrett and Grover J. Buchannon of Thomasville, NC; his grandson Grover J. Garrett Jr.; his aunt Christine Kinsler of High Point, NC; his siblings, Betty Garrett Bailey (Filmore), Victoria Garrett, James Garrett, Darryl Garrett of Florence, SC and Timothy Garrett (Anne Mae) of High Point, NC; his godsons, Kyle Foster Ingram and Ricky R. Haywood Jr. of High Point, NC; and his friends, Odell Whitlock, Kelly Jones and Lewis Graham. He is also survived by cousins, other relatives, friends.
