He is survived by: his wife Rena Knepshield Smail; his daughters, Marjorie Smail Brandt (James) and Terri Smail Jenkins (David, Jr.); and his siblings, Mildred Smail Hoch and Earl C. Smail (Velma Santus Smail). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
