He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Cagle Thompson; his daughters, Donna Smith (Bob) of Florida and Ellen Haggerty of High Point; and his grandchildren, B. J. Thompson, Joe Thompson, Renae Altman, Will Haggerty and Ethan Haggerty. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
