He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Tate; his wife Rosa Tate; his son Joe Dean Tate; and his siblings, Willie Tate, Ida Mae Morgan, Juanita Martin and Evelyn Shippy.
He is survived by: his daughters, Henrietta Briley (Tommy, Sr.) of High Point, NC, Sylvia Woke of High Point, NC, Karen Cormack (Claude, Sr.) of High Point, NC and Lenette Burris of High Point, NC; his great grandchildren, Naudia McKoy, Savannah Walpole, Ariana McKoy, Ja'Nyla Burris, Kahli Briley, Lamire Edwards and Abigail Godfrey; his godson Terrez Phillips; and his sisters, Elease Reeder, Mittie Barr and Ruth Tate. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
