She was predeceased by: her parents, Garland Young and Mary Bell Pike Young; her husband Dennis Martin Steed, Sr.; and her son Dennis Martin Steed, Jr.. She is survived by: her children, Erica Steed (Rodney Matthews), Denise Steed (Dwight Foust) of Greensboro, NC and Rodney Steed of Trinity, NC; her granddaughters, Chyna Jacobs of High Point, NC and Malashia Matthews; her brother Arnold Phillips (Betty); her nephew Walter Gilmer (Teresa); and her close friend Sarah Thompson. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
