He was predeceased by: his mother Naomi Leonard Russell; and his sister Judy Russell White. He is survived by: his wife Betty Logan Russell; his children, Keata Russell of Jamestown, David Russell (Tabatha) of Snow Camp and Jeff Russell (Shirley) of High Point; and his grandchildren, Colt Wayne Russell, Michael Dean Russell and Gracie Caroline Russell.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 121 SW Cloverleaf Place High Point, NC 27263.
