He was predeceased by: his grandson Tyler Johnston; and his daughter-in-law Amber Ward. He is survived by: his wife Judy; his children, James T. Ward, Jr. of King and Jayne Johnston (John) of Winston-Salem; his grandchildren, Spencer Johnston and Millicent Johnston; his brother Henry D. Gregory (Amanda) of Atlanta; his nephew Drew Gregory; and his niece Alice Legum.
