With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Susan Smitherman (High Point, North Carolina), born in Cleveland, Ohio, who passed away on December 5, 2021 at the age of 81. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Susan Smitherman to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Smith Dodd and Emma-Louise Parker Dodd; and her brother Richard Wallace Dodd. She is survived by: her husband James Samuel "Smut" Smitherman, Jr.; her daughters, Jennifer Wade Smitherman Carpenter (Barry) of Greensboro and Nina-Louise Smitherman Rivenbark (Allen) of Wilmington; her grandsons, Clay Carpenter of Charleston, Smith Carpenter of New York, Trey Rivenbark of Wilmington and Wade Rivenbark of Wilmington; her sister Florence Channey (Steve) of St Augustine; and her sisters-in-law, Cheryl Grandfield of New York and Susan Snuggs of Concord.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following in Susan's honor: Nature Conservancy in North Carolina and St Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Seven Lakes, North Carolina.
