He was predeceased by : his parents, William Edward Hines and Kate Middleton Hines; his wife Sara Martin Hines; and his siblings, Samuel Middleton Hines, William Edward Hines, Jr., Edward Earl Hines, Elizabeth Hines Page and Martha Hines Buck Jay.

He is survived by : his children, James H. Hines, Jr. (Brenda) of Apex, NC and Thomas M. Hines (Evalyn) of Wilmington, NC; and his grandchildren, Robert T. Hines (Kate) of Holly Springs, NC and Joy Hines Bouquin (Todd) of Apex, NC. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, any assistance you may offer to someone in need to celebrate Jay's lifelong spirit of giving would be wonderful.
