He is survived by: his wife Jessie Artis; his children, Jessie A. Smith of Wilmington, NC, Melissa Morris of Orang Park, FL, Elton Earl Platt and Bobby Ray Platt of Kinston; and his siblings, Martha L. Mitchell (Donald Ray) of Kinston, Sarah Wyche of Tampa, FL, Rev. George Artis of Kinston, Matthew Harris Jr. of Tampa, FL and Eugene Freeman of Cameron, NJ. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
