He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Earl Hunter and Marie Kornegay Hunter. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Rouse Hunter; his sons, Joseph Earl Hunter, Jr. (Dawn) and Robert Preston Hunter (Belinda); his grandchildren, Dr. Jamie L. Hunter of Greenville, Joseph E. Hunter III, Robert P. Hunter, Jr., Ethan M. Hunter and Jacob E. Hunter; his brother Robert "Bobby" K. Hunter of Kinston; and also Bracey Harrell.
Due to the Coronavirus, the family is currently asking for you to maintain social distancing and not actively visit the family home.
