He was predeceased by : his mother Kayla Thomas Bross of Cincinnati, OH.. He is survived by : his father Merril Lehman Schaffer, Sr. of Tavares, FL; his wife Susan Schaffer; his step-sons, Mickey Winfree of Oak Island, NC and Shannon Winfree of Tucson, AZ; his daughter Brenda Schaffer Hager of Corinth, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Hanna Beckman and Korbe Winfree of Summerville, SC; his great grandchildren, Audrey and Ruth Beckman of Summerville, SC; and his brothers, Jeff Schaffer of Cincinnati, OH and Ted Schaffer of Cincinnati, OH..

A funeral service was held on Friday, January 15th 2021 at 2:00 PM at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church (800 Rountree St, Kinston, NC 28501). A committal service was held on Saturday, January 16th 2021 at 12:00 PM at the Bennett Family Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic there will be no visitation or reception.
