He was predeceased by: his parents, Nell Elizabeth Hardee Garner and Carl Duncan Garner, Jr.; and his brothers, Carl Duncan Garner III and Joseph Hartley Garner. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca "Becky" Jones Garner; his sons, Stephen Douglas Garner of Kinston and Cody Duncan Garner (Emily) of New Bern; his grandchildren, Duncan Edward Grey Garner and Stacy Kupka (Michael); his great grandchildren, Judah, Levi, Eden, Benjamin and Elizabeth Jamison (Jim); and also, Killian and Georgia.
