He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade Hampton and Ruby Clark Tilghman; and his siblings, Dorothy Cooke, Shirley Clark, Mary LeMay, Hilda Banks, Ruby Lee Jackson, Wade Hampton Tilghman, Jr. and Bill.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Barwick Tilghman; his sons, William A. "Bill" Tilghman, Jr. and Keith W. Tilghman (Sarah); his grandchildren, Anna C. Tilghman and Wade B. Tilghman; and his sisters, Delia Alcock and Nettie Tilghman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
