She was predeceased by: her parents, Julius Alfred Whitley and Ruby Lee Plyler Whitley. She is survived by: her sons, Mark Owens (Maria) and Robert "Bobby" Charles Owens (Jolene Underhill); her grandchildren, Tony (Whitney), Jonathan (Courtney), Nicole (Ryan), Allison (Ryan) and Staci (Jeff); and her brothers, Conrad Whitley and Lafayette Whitley. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 8300 Healthpark #10, Raleigh, NC 27615.
