He was predeceased by: his parents, James L. Sutherland, Jr. and Mary Wall James Sutherland; his wife Martha "Marty" Land Sutherland; and his siblings, William "Fulton" Sutherland and Mary James Criscuolo.
He is survived by: his son James "Jamie" L. Sutherland IV (Debra) of Laurinburg; and his grandchildren, Ashleigh Bailey, McKenna Sutherland and Cooper Sutherland.
The family requests memorial donations be given to the Laurinburg Optimist Club or Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
