He was predeceased by: his former wife Sophia Layne Hedrick McBride; his brother James Maurice McBride; and his brother-in-law Nathaniel Smith. He is survived by: his spouse Donese Leonard McBride; his children, Sam McBride, Jr. (Vilma) of Chapel Hill, James "Lee" McBride (Diane) of Lexington and Christine Johnson (Rick) of Lexington; his stepson Danny Leonard (Angela) of Clemmons; his brother John T. McBride (Doris) of Henderson; his sister-in-law Mary McBride of Holden Beach; his sister Virginia Smith of Mooresville; and his grandchildren, Meghan McBride, Sarah McBride, Jacob McBride, Casey McBride, Morgan McBride, Trey Johnson, Spencer Leonard and Hedrick Leonard.
