He was predeceased by: his parents, James Carey Burgess and Mary Leola Cameron Burgess; and his brothers, J. C. Burgess Jr., Winfred Burgess, George Burgess, Sam Burgess, Clifton Burgess and Kenneth Burgess.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda D. Burgess; and his children, Christy B. Holder of Lillington, NC, Michael J. Burgess (Sarah) of Lillington, NC and James L. Burgess (Mary Lucille McLamb) of Mount Olive, NC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Holly Springs Church (385 Holly Springs Church Rd, Broadway, NC 27505). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Holly Springs Baptist Church (385 Holly Springs Church Rd, Broadway, NC 27505).
