She was predeceased by : her husband Elwood Johnson Burgess, Sr.; and her siblings, Gordon Limer and Hazel Carter. She is survived by : her children, Angela Brooks (David) and Dr. E. J. Burgess; her grandchildren, Angela Vaughan (Jonathan), Katie Cashwell (Colie) and John Burgess (Morgan); and her great grandchildren, Angel Vaughan, Anderson Cashwell, Jackson Cashwell and Luke Cashwell.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.
