He was predeceased by : his parents, William James Mills Jr. and Vivian Hixson; and his brothers, Steven, Donald, Bobby and David Mills.

He is survived by : his stepfather George Hixson of LaFayette, Georgia; his sisters, Nancy Brailey of Roseburg, Carol Norris of Raleigh, Aileen Harris of Louisburg and Alice Elliott of Mayodan; and his nieces and nephews, Susan Mills of Dayton, Emily Harris of Raleigh, Ashley Brinkerhoff of Central Point, Kristian Gonzales of Bloomington, Illinois, Dylan Elliott of Greensboro and Alexander Harris of Apex.
