Betty Ann Cockayne Obituary
Betty Ann Cockayne, 91, of Louisburg passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was born on April 15, 1934, to the late Ray Daniel Johnson and Retha Guy Johnson in Iredell County, NC.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cockayne; her siblings, Cora Lee Fortner and Billy Ray Johnson; and her aunts, Ophelia Guy, Hazel Wall and Audra Baker.
Betty is survived by her son, Gerald Piercy (Susan); her daughter Dawn Piercy (Glenn); three grandchildren, Katie Piercy, Alex Hunt and Melanie Eldridge; her brother, Tommy Johnson (Karol), her brother-in-law Bob Cockayne (Sally); special friends, Marsha Delavan, and the Bonvillian family as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Betty retired as a registered nurse with over 47 years of service. After retirement, she started her own catering business called "Lunches by Mom" in Raleigh. Betty was the recipient of a basketball scholarship that paid for her nursing studies at Davis Hospital in Statesville, NC.
She loved basketball, especially Carolina. Betty was known for her famous poundcake and was an excellent cook. She was a member of Wake Forest Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing and writing in her journal. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. Throughout her life she was able to make an incredible impact by caring for others in the nursing profession.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 4:00pm at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd in Louisburg.
