He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Smith and Addie Mae Pittman Smith; his son Cecil Daniel Smith, Jr.; and his siblings, Oakey Smith, Wayne Smith, Darrell Smith, Bert Smith, Mae Blanton and Elizabeth Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Shelby Taylor Smith; his children, Michael Salmon (Kim) of Elizabethtown, NC, Gayle Sessoms (Ralph) of Lumberton, NC, Cindy Nance (Alan Bryan) of Elizabethtown, NC and Sherry Harding (Dallas) of Lumberton, NC; his grandchildren, Kassidy Jones, Karrye Chadwick, Joseph Daniel Nance, Brandy Locklear, Heather Jenkins, Marrisa Britt and James Dallas Harding II; and his sister Joyce Freeman of Lumberton, NC.. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
