He is survived by: his mother Stella Rea Gardner of Olanta, SC; his wife Martha Gardner; his daughters, Alexise Gardner and Patricia Sampson (Samuel Jr); his goddaughters, Santana Sampson and Courtney Locklear; his sons, Timothy Gardner of Lumberton, NC, Charles Gardner, Jr. (Caitlain) of Lumberton, NC and Terrance Hilton (Brande) of Spring Lake, NC.; his grandchildren, Madison Sampson, Kaydynce Gardner, Terrance Hilton Jr., Domarria Mitchell and Alaya Mills; his siblings, Johnny Gardner, Jr. (Shalanda) of South Carolina, Willie McDowell (Lora) of South Carolina, Rosa Mae Burgess of Lumberton, NC, Alisha Epps of South Carolina, Lori G. Smith of South Carolina, Barbara Myers of South Carolina, Sherrie Harrison (Spencer) of South Carolina and Cynthia Hammonds of Lumberton, NC; his aunts, Barbara McElveen, Annette Nero and Delphin Gardner; his siblings-in-law, Isabel Jones, Sybil Dunbar, Elizabeth McClain (Randy), Patricia Stone (Nathaniel), Joe McClain (Sherry), Matthew McClain (Towana) and John McClain (Sebrena); his niece Elaine Green (Kenyatta); his close friend John Ferguson; his pets, Charlie Ellis Gardner and Ladybug Paige Sampson; his friend Charity Church of God; Baxter Miller (Deloris) and Richard Miller (Stephanie). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, close cousins, other relatives.
He became a member of Charity Church of God in Lumberton, NC, where he served as head Drummer under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Hunt for 20 years, until his death.
