He was predeceased by: his parents, Stringfield Mayes and Lilly Bullard Mayes; and his siblings, Jack Mayes, Kathleen Parker, Corine Bullock, Georgia Lee Barfield and Margaret Parker.
He is survived by: his wife Geraldine English Mayes; his children, Charles Ray Mayes, Jr. (Mary Fields) of Lumberton and Annette Rising (Stephen Anthony) of Lumberton; his grandchildren, Kelli Sluder (Mike), Lindsey Jones (James), Samatha Wells (Rick), Brittany Monte (Chad) and Averi Mayes; and his great grandchildren, Madison, Ryker, JoJo, Charlie, Luke, Liam and Boone.
