He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Barton and Mary Bell Barton; his granddaughter Santana Barton; and his sister Carolyn Oxendine. He is survived by: his children, Donald H. Barton, Al Brewington, Tara Lynn Barton and April Barton (Marcus); his stepchildren, Tanya Locklear and Anthony Callahan; and his siblings, Harold Barton (Wanda), Howard Barton (Montine), Darrel Barton, Helen Hagan, Jo Anne Oxendine (Thomas), Geraldine B. Hunt (Garry) and Michelle Kline (Lloyd). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
