He was predeceased by: his mother Libby Lowry; his grandfather Hubbard Lowry; his wife Betty Faye Sampson; his brothers, Dean Sampson and Thedford Sampson; and his friend Jimbo Lowry.
He is survived by: his children, Bobby Ray Sampson (Karen), Delora Sampson Hunt (Kip), Delessie Locklear (Davey) and Sonia Sampson (Ronnie); his grandchildren, James Gavin Parsons, Talechia Nicole Sampson, Kayla Adele Freeman, Bobbi Layne Sampson, Nicholas Blake Hall, Michael Allen Hall, David Carson Locklear, Dylan Ray Locklear and Kristin Betty Hunt; his sisters, Libby Sue Cox of Virginia and Peggy Strickland of Charlotte; and his friends, Little Bill, Big Joe and Marie Locklear. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
