He is survived by: his wife Mary Alice Strickland Chavis; his daughters, Mirian Chavis of Lumberton, NC and Shannon Chavis Vick of Rocky Mount, NC; his granddaughters, Ashley Chavis of Lumberton and Kieran Hunt (Trenton) of Lumberton; his great grandchildren, Karleigh Madelyn and Brysen Keith; his daughter-in-law Pattie Chavis; and his siblings, Kenneth Chavis of Pembroke, NC, Cassie Mae Lowry of Pembroke, NC, Ella Evans of Pembroke, NC and Linda Chavis of Pembroke, NC.
