He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert H. Freeman and Iler Mae Hunt Freeman; and his brothers, Danny Lee Freeman and Harvey Freeman. He is survived by: his son James Herbert "Jamie" Freeman (Crystal) of Pembroke; and his siblings, Larry D. Freeman (Debbie) of Rowland, Verndell Freeman of Fairmont, Phillip Freeman (Stephanie) of Rowland, Nelson Freeman (Aliza) of Pembroke, Norma J. Blue (Eddie) of Fairmont, Darlene Carter (Wayne) of Rowland, Tammy Freeman of Lumberton and Sarah Hunt (Michael) of Rowland. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
