He was predeceased by: his parents, Lockey Sanderson and Lena Sanderson; his stepmother Laura B. Sanderson; his siblings, Bessie Locklear, Jessie Locklear, Susie Chavis, Minnie McNeill, Margie Sanderson, Lonnie Sanderson, David Sanderson, Glenn Sanderson, John Sanderson, Frank Sanderson, Barney Sanderson, Fuller Sanderson and Dump Locklear; and his grandson Raylen Rae Sanderson.
He is survived by: his wife Earline Sanderson; his children, Robert Lee Jones (Edith) of Lumberton, James Sanderson Jr. of St. Pauls, Carlton Ray Sanderson and Amanda Oxendine (Michael) of Lumberton; and his sister Betty J. Hunt. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
