He was predeceased by: his wives, Alice Eaker Simmons, Alma Huggins Simmons and Nelva Ayo Simmons; his siblings, Vanoil Adams, Earline Barlow, Mary Thames, Cois Simmons, Devane Simmons and Frank Simmons; his son-in-law Johnny Hester; and his grandchildren, Christina Camille Phillips, Bryan Charles Phillips and Jared Ross Casey.
He is survived by: his daughters, Debra Simmons Phillips (Charles) of Fayetteville, NC and Myra Beth Simmons of Swansboro, NC; his grandchildren, Allison Elizabeth Casey of Edmonds, WA and Jonathan Nelson Casey (Jodie) of Emerald Isle, NC; his daughter Pamela Simmons Hester of Lumberton, NC; his grandson Adam Pierce Hester (Casey) of Denver, CO; his stepchildren, John Hester, Tara Hester Knecht, Matthew Hester and Jackie Kissam Bass (Phillip); his granddaughters, Amanda Bass and Rebecca Hughes; his siblings, Annette Rankin (Gerald) of Pride, LA, Linda Bowman of Shreveport, LA and Gene Simmons (Louceal) of West Monroe, LA; his close friend Margie Cribb; and his pet Misy. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
