He was predeceased by: his sister Carrie Tilley; his wife Helen Musselwhite Hardin; and his son Robert Hardin. He is survived by: his children, Ricky Hardin, Carolyn Carter of Lumberton, Stanley Hardin Jr. of Lumberton and Jimmy Hardin (Rhonda) of Lumberton; his adoptive son Walker "Shane" Britt of Lumberton; his grandchildren, Tonya Freeman of Lumberton, Krystal Miller and Brandon Stephens of Lumberton; his great grandchildren, Dakota Freeman of Lumberton, Tyler Jackson, Kay Kay Jackson and Zachery Miller; and his siblings, Frank Hardin of New Bern, NC., Jack Hardin of Lumberton and Shirley Miller of Lumberton. He is also survived by five great-great grandchildren.
