He is survived by: his wife Ruthie Leake Cardwell; his son Joey Cardwell (Melia) of Madison; his grandson Tucker Cardwell of Raleigh; his daughter Sue Hill Cardwell of Reidsville; his granddaughters, Cassi Cardwell of Charlotte and Erin Cardwell of New York; his sister Shirley Cardwell Albert of Stokesdale; and his niece Lisa Albert Vaughn.
