He was predeceased by: his parents, James Jacob and Sally Rickman Carter; and his siblings, Nannie Lindsey, Emma Amos, Gracie Snyder, Mabel Trent, Polly Fraley, Harvey Jackson, Hugh Carter, William Carter and Ruben Carter.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Stanley Carter; his sons, Danny Carter (Karen) of Morehead City, Dennis Carter (Angie) of High Point and Charles "Chuck" Carter (Lisa) of Madison; his grandchildren, Kirsty Cahoon (Tony) of Moyock, Ian Carter (Amanda) of Virginia Beach, Chelsea Carter of San Francisco, Hunter Carter of Morehead City, Morgan Carter of Moyock, Sailor Carter of Morehead City, Jake Carter and Brooke Carter of Madison; his great grandchildren, Avrie, Jase, Hunter Cahoon and Ian Carter, Jr.; and his siblings, Sarah Carter, Betty Carter (Frank) of Reidsville and Tyree Carter (Bonnie) of Holden Beach.
